How to play a Volley Reverse Boast

A volley reverse boast is a Boast shot played on the Volley, which as with the Reverse Boast, hits the furthest away side wall before hitting the front wall. A standard Volley Boast will hit the nearest side wall first.
The Volley Reverse Boast can be a particularly effective Return of Serve when used sparingly, as it can catch an opponent out and earn an easy point, which can be important for breaking an opponent’s rhythm.
Play a good Volley Reverse Boast in four quick steps:
- Make sure you have plenty of space – As with the non-Volley version of this shot, make sure you have the space to play this shot as it’s not easy to get the angle. It’s also important that you don’t endanger your opponent as the ball will fly right across the court.
- Hit the ball in front of you – It is easier to execute this shot when the ball is in front of you, as this helps with getting around the ball enough to make it go towards the far side wall.
- Rotate towards the far side wall – It can be difficult initially to get the ball to hit the far side wall first, so when you play the Reverse Volley Boast, allow your body to rotate naturally and your arm to go towards the desired spot as if you were throwing the ball into the far side wall.
- Angle – The Reverse Boast, on the Volley or otherwise, is usually most deadly when it hits the far side wall close to the corner so that it will hit the front wall close to the corner as well. This means it will bounce twice around the middle of the front wall.
