The Trickle Boast is a Boast played at the front of the court and is a good alternative to a Drop shot.
With the Trickle Boast, the ball hits the side wall close to the corner so that it also hits the front wall very close to the corner and trickles (hence the name) out into the court. When played with deception and hold, it can be incredibly effective.
A Trickle Boast should be played low but can be played at a slow pace so that it barely bounces or it can be played with a lot of venom and speed.
The Trickle Boast in three steps:
- Get down low – As always when playing a shot at the front, you need to get down low so that you are closer to the ball, enabling you to have better control over it.
- High to low swing – Make sure your racket is above the ball when you can make contact so that you can bring the ball downwards by swinging with a “high to low” If you have a high racket you can also give the impression you are going to play a hard or Length shot, which is vital for making the Trickle Boast a winning shot.
- Angle – Aim for the ball to hit the side wall close to the corner so that it will hit the front wall close to the corner as well, making it tough to retrieve.
